NUTLEY, NJ - Nutley High School’s theater department is staging an unforgettable production of Mean Girls this week, and this year’s show carries a special connection to an esteemed NHS alumnus.
Local real estate professional and former Nutley High School performer Zachary Sebek is the main sponsor, generously giving back to the program that played a formative role of his journey.
From the Nutley High Stage to Opera Performance
Sebek’s love of the performing arts was evident from his earliest days at Nutley High School. A dedicated student of music and theatre, he immersed himself in multiple programs, including choir, band, jazz band, and marching band. His talent and passion led him to star in the school’s musical productions, including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Sweeney Todd, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Annie Get Your Gun.
One of the most unforgettable moments of Sebek’s high school career came during Annie Get Your Gun, when he staged a show-stopping promposal to his now-wife, Francesca May Lentini. In a heartfelt and theatrical gesture, Sebek sang ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You’ with the entire chorus before asking Francesca to prom—a moment that remains legendary in Nutley High School’s theater history.
After graduating, Sebek went on to study opera performance at the distinguished Mannes School of Music at The New School, where he refined his vocal artistry. While his career path eventually led him to real estate, his passion for the performing arts never wavered.
Supporting the Next Generation of Performers
Now a top real estate professional in North Jersey, Sebek remains committed to supporting the arts and giving back to the programs that shaped him. His sponsorship of Mean Girls is a testament to his belief in the importance of arts education and the role it plays in shaping young performers.
“The experiences I had at Nutley High were instrumental in shaping who I am today,” Sebek shared. “Supporting the current students is my way of giving back to a community that gave me so much.”
Nutley High School’s Mean Girls production, bolstered by Sebek’s sponsorship, was met with enthusiasm and excitement from both participants and the wider community. The school’s newspaper, Maroon and Gray, highlighted the anticipation surrounding the show, emphasizing its relevance and impact on contemporary audiences.
As the curtain closes on another successful production, Nutley High School’s performing arts program remains a strong and vital part of the community. With dedicated alumni like Sebek giving back, the future of the arts at NHS continues to shine bright, inspiring students to embrace their creativity and passion for the stage.
